Golf - 363-5034 Designed by Donald Ross in 1925, the Roaring Gap golf course manifests its author's genius just as dramatically as Ross' other masterpiece courses -- Seminole, Palm Beach, and Pinehurst #2. An article in The Elkin Tribune from September 1927 aptly describes the course: "Donald Ross planned and created the unique course which, though traversing a mountain top, is but slightly rolling and never steep, with fairways that skirt the outline of the escarpment, with tees whose wondrous panoramas of misty landscapes far below may tend to take the mind and eyes off the ball." RGC's golf professional, Bill Glenn (email), succeeds a distinguished line of predecessors, including Bailey Glenn (started '56), Ed Bullock ('55), Ralph Lang ('49), "Dumpy" Haigler (late '30's), Mr. Innes ('33), and Palmer Maples ('25). The course hosted the 1969 Carolinas' P.G.A. Championship and the 2000 Carolinas' Senior Annual. |

- 363-5027
Theron Bass, the Roaring Gap tennis
professional, opens the courts at 8:00 a.m., seven
days a week. Only same-day reservations are
accepted. Theron traditionally runs a Kids Clinic at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The clinic is geared toward building the foundation that a youngster will need as an adult -- getting an early start is essential. You can get all of your tennis supplies at the tennis shop. If it lacks anything, Theron will order it for you.
